What are the various types of Web Sites?

From the end-user's perspective, web sites are normally classified into two categories:

Static (without updating facilities), and

Dynamic (with updating facilities).

A static web site does not have updating facilities. This means, once designed, static web sites cannot be updated by the end users. If any data changes, then this change could only be reflected by editing the files. This however requires design expertise. Consequently, the client has to call on the design office if anything has to be changed. In technical terms, this is called ‘web maintenance.' Static design format is preferred to publish permanent type of information.

A dynamic web site is created by using the database, which could be updated by the authorized users whenever required. It is to be noted, however, that the layout, such as the location of photographs and text materials, could not be changed. The desired information can be updated by the authorized users. For example, college fee structure, or inventory price change could be reflected on the web site at the client's will. Clients would not need to call on the design office to incorporate these statistical changes.
